About the Artists

Ramsey Lewis
Composer, pianist and jazz legend Ramsey Lewis has been referred to as “the great performer,” a title reflecting his performance style and musical selections which display his early gospel playing and classical training along with his love of jazz and other musical forms. The three-time GRAMMY® Winner hosts a nationally syndicated radio program, “Legends of Jazz with Ramsey Lewis,” as well as the PBS television series of the same title. Ramsey Lewis has fond memories of The Broadmoor and we are honored to have him join us for the 5th annual Weekend of Jazz.

Boney James
Two-time GRAMMY® nominee Boney James is tearing up the Billboard charts with his 10th solo album, Shine. Over the past decade, Boney has earned four gold certifications on a string of hugely successful albums blending jazz and R&B – virtually spawning the sub genre known as Urban Jazz. In addition to his recording achievements, Boney will bring his passion for live performance to the 5th Annual Weekend of Jazz. The “experience of playing live – that’s why I became a musician in the first place,” Boney declares. “It’s exciting and liberating. It never gets old for me.”

Mindi Abair
Since winning ‘Best New Artist’ at the 2003 Smooth Jazz Awards, it has been an incredible ride for saxophonist/vocalist/composer Mindi Abair. Her songs have climbed the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Charts and have been featured on everything from Aaron Spelling’s hit “Summerland” to a Women in Jazz feature at The GRAMMY® Awards to Panasonic’s Jumbotron in Times Square. Mindi’s latest release is with Weekend of Jazz alum Peter White on ‘Peter White Christmas’ with herself and Rick Braun.
Mindi’s first release with Concord/Peak records is scheduled for its debut in April. www.mindiabair.com

Sophie Milman
At age 24, critically acclaimed jazz vocalist Sophie Milman is receiving praise for her sophomore album, Make Someone Happy. The Russian-born beauty and Canadian resident has had an incredible 3 years following her 2004 self-titled debut album. A 2007 iTunes Jazz Best Seller and a Billboard Top 15 artist, Sophie has already accomplished more in her 24 years that people twice her age. The Los Angeles Times writes, “Milman’s rich and honeyed timbres…are the sound of a potential star in the making.” www.sophiemilman.com
