The Lanesborough Launches New Restaurant

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

The Lanesborough, the iconic London hotel in Knightsbridge, announces the launch of ‘Apsleys – a Heinz Beck Restaurant’. This will be Chef Heinz Beck’s first restaurant outside of Italy. Beck has been the recipient of numerous awards for outstanding achievement throughout a long and prestigious career. He was awarded three-Michelin stars for his cuisine at La Pergola in Rome, Italy. ‘Apsleys – a Heinz Beck Restaurant’ will begin service on September 7, 2009.

‘Apsleys – a Heinz Beck Restaurant’ will feature traditional Italian fare with antipasti, soup, pasta, meat and fish main courses as well as desserts. Beck created the menu with the intention of keeping dishes healthy and approachable yet still exciting.

The menu will feature starter dishes such as ‘Seabass Cannolo with Celery and Melon’ and pasta dishes including ‘Rabbit Ravioli with Asparagus and Pistachio’ and ‘Gnocchi with a Shellfish Broth.’ Main courses such as ‘Black Cod with Chickpeas’ and ‘Slow Braised Veal Cheek with Apple Puree and Jerusalem Artichokes’ will also be on the menu. ‘Apsleys – a Heinz Beck Restaurant’ will also highlight a ‘Menu del Giorno’ available at lunch with three courses priced at £26. Finally, Beck has created a seven course ‘Menu Degustazione’ available at £75 per person.

Beck’s career spans over a quarter of a century. In 1994 he opened La Pergola and currently serves as Executive Chef. Under his supervision, La Pergola earned three-Michelin stars — the only restaurant in Rome to be accorded such an honor. In addition, he has refined his culinary skills throughout Europe. Beck has been cooking since he was 16 and began honing his career in his native Germany.

‘Apsleys – a Heinz Beck Restaurant’ will be overseen by Beck with Massimiliano Blasone serving as his Executive Chef. Blasone has worked with Beck for 11 years and will be responsible for ensuring the quality and consistency of Beck’s menu. Prior to taking on this role, Blasone served as the executive chef at Castello Banfi, the Tuscan estate producing Brunello di Montalcino wine. During his tenure at Castello Banfi Blasone earned a Michelin star. Blasone will be supported by a brigade of handpicked chefs, the majority of whom have worked under Beck for many years.

The creativity and luxury of the menu compliments the grandeur of The Lanesborough creating an experience that is ideal for both a formal business meal and relaxed social dining. The beautiful dining room, which is located under The Lanesborough’s famed conservatory, was designed by the world-renowned Tihany Design, founded by Adam Tihany. The firm has been responsible for some of the world’s most noteworthy restaurants including Le Cirque, Jean-Georges and Per Se in New York and The French Laundry in California.

The Lanesborough has long enjoyed its status as one of the world’s most luxurious and lauded hotels and the appointment of Heinz Beck looks set to only further this distinction.
