VOMO Island Fiji Reopens with New Beachfront Residences

The private island resort has used Fiji’s travel hiatus as an opportunity to step up its sustainable practices.

By Irenie Forshaw

As Fiji gears up to welcome back tourists for the first time in nearly two years, VOMO Island Resort is reopening with two luxurious new beachfront residences and a fresh set of sustainability initiatives.

Located within the Mamanuca Islands – just a 15-minute helicopter ride from Nadi International Airport – VOMO is a pristine 225-acre private island resort offering guests a slice of tropical paradise. From the start of December, fully vaccinated travelers will be able to escape to the idyllic haven in the South Pacific for a winter break.

The resort has been hard at work during the travel hiatus making enhancements to its accommodation offerings. Joining the four existing hillside and beachfront villas are two brand new exclusive residences.

Talei Taki (Fijian for “precious place”) is a contemporary four-bedroom property, comfortably able to host up to eight guests. Designed using plenty of natural timbers, the residence has multiple outdoor spaces for al fresco dining and a 46-ft infinity pool surrounded by native Dilo trees.

Those with a larger group can opt to stay at Reef House – a five-bedroom villa spanning 328 ft of beachfront, overlooking the nearby Yasawa Islands. The enormous property sleeps up to 10 people and features a spacious dining and living area with glass doors that slide away to create one continuous space, ideal for entertaining.

Both properties have direct access to the island’s white sandy beaches and a concierge butler service so guests won’t have to lift a finger during their stay. There is also an array of experiences and activities to choose from including hiking up Mount Vomo, kayaking, snorkeling trips to see the coral reefs, indulgent treatments at the on-site Kui spa and morning yoga sessions on the beach.

Perhaps most impressive is the resort’s latest efforts to preserve the stunning natural environment. During the 20-month border closure, a fresh water bottling plant was built to completely eradicate single-use plastic bottles, while toiletries are now packaged entirely in locally made pottery.

Since 2001, VOMO has also been a member of the Mamanuca Environment Society, which protects the archipelago through a range of initiatives including coral reef monitoring and rehabilitation, turtle conservation and water analysis.

As for the resort’s culinary offerings, the diverse, innovative menu makes full use of organic produce straight from the gardens.

Commenting on the reopening, general manager at VOMO Justin King said: “I believe the next five years will be a renaissance period for immersive properties like VOMO Island Resort Fiji. Travelers will re-emerge seeking meaningful connection within their vacation time, as well as the ability to positively impact the destination they visit. VOMO will be at the leading edge of this evolution in Fiji.”

Rates for VOMO’s Resort Villas begin at $1,040 per night with a two-night minimum stay.
