Ahead of the second annual Food & Arts Fest hosted by Velas during Mexico’s Festival Gourmet International, the Velas Resorts in Vallarta and Nayarit have announced the chefs who will be playing a part in the celebration. Taking place November 11th to 20th 2017, this culinary event will feature special dining experiences with some of Mexico’s top chefs, along with an insight into the nation’s contemporary art scene.
Each year the Festival Gourmet International brings top chefs from across the globe to Mexico’s Pacific Coast to introduce people to their signature cuisine. The Gourmet Festival’s events at Velas Resorts in Vallarta and Nayarit are included in every guest’s stay at this time.
While Chef Massimo Fongaro of restaurants Sagrantino and El Italiano in Guadalajara showcases his culinary expertise at Velas Vallarta, chef Roberto Sierra (pictured) of restaurant Frida at Grand Velas Los Cabos will be making an appearance at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit where guests can also join the Food & Arts Fest, combining the nation’s culinary identity and artistic expression.
Having trained to be a chef at the Alberghiero Artusi Institute in Recoaro Terme, Italy, Massimo Fongaro bases his style of cooking on his passion for Italian cuisine, as well as the international influence he’s acquired from working in hotels and restaurants in Los Cabos and Washington D.C. Both of his restaurants in Guadalajara are winners of the Star Diamond Award and the Golden Fork by CANIRAC for Best International Restaurant.
Chef Roberto Sierra is originally from Zihuatanejo and was first inspired to cook by his mother and grandmother. He has now worked in kitchens across Mexico as well as in Cuba, Costa Rica, Panama and Venezuela. At restaurant Frida he exhibits his passion for Mexican cuisine. During the event, Roberto Sierra will be cooking alongside chef Isaac Esparza.
The Food & Art Fest will be held on November 16th at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, combining haute cuisine with a live auction of artworks spanning a broad range of mediums and including work by leading artists such as Roberto Turnbull, Pedro Escapa and Rufino Tamayo.
