The 4 Best Things to do at Night in Bilbao

By admin |  June 3 2007

Pacha Lounge Bilbao

Pacha Lounge Bilbao

Once you’ve enjoyed the gastronomic pleasure of Bilbao, you’ll find that the city contains plenty of bars where locals and visitors enjoy the scene until the early hours.

Some of the larger clubs attract many local and international celebrities. Cultural enthusiasts will enjoy a trip to Bilbao’s Teatro Arriaga, a Neo-Baroque opera house that highlights the best Spain has to offer.

Teatro Arriaga

The Teatro Arriaga is the cultural center of Bilbao’s nightlife. Opened in 1890, the theater has since been rebuilt due to severe flooding in 1985.

Designed by Joaquín Rucoba and named after Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga, a local Spanish composer often dubbed the ‘Spanish Mozart’, the theater also hosts excellent opera performances. And the building itself is an impressive piece of architecture; Rucoba took inspiration from the Paris Opera House, and the façade and polygonal towers are particularly impressive, as is the resplendent interior.

Pacha Lounge

The Pacha name is already known world-wide, thanks to its famous sister venue in Ibiza.

Throw in a guest appearance from the undisputed queen of the party, Paris Hilton, and you’re bound to stir up even more hype. Pacha Lounge Bilbao continues the fine traditions of the flagship club with VIP seating, a cool laid-back crowd and pounding music, but also features a restaurant serving food during the day and early evening. With its $2 million investment and innovative sound system, a night in Pacha Lounge will be the highlight of your evening out in Bilbao.

Public Lounge

It’s highly unlikely that you’ll visit another bar that looks like Public Lounge.

Camp, contemporary, neo-Gothic, trendy; call it what you will, but you can never call it boring. Some of the interior decorations are so unusual they are almost comical; check out the framed antlers that were found in a local wood or the ‘Showtime’ chair. Décor aside, the bar is a chic affair that attracts Bilbao’s movers and shakers. During the week the bar serves food but the best nights are at the weekend when the tables are pushed aside and the music continues till dawn.

La Terraza del Yandiola

The stylish Yandiola has been making a mark as a restaurant for some time, thanks to the creativity of head chef Ricardo Perez.

Even more stylish is La Terraza del Yandiola, the rooftop bar above the restaurant, which serves delicious cocktails and offers one of the finest views over Bilbao. Particularly inviting during the summer months, the terrace is packed with the city’s social elite, who come for the chilled out music and excellent drinks. This beautiful spot on top of the Granary (the building that Yandiola is housed in) is available for private hire and stays open until midnight at weekends.
