la reserve ramatuelle spa

I fell immediately under the Côte d’Azur’s spell some 25 years ago, upon my arrival from Australia.

Not only for the obvious – its beautiful and sophisticated coastline, where all of one’s whims can seemingly be fulfilled, but also because of the equally enchanting and nearby pastoral pleasures of Provence. Where else may one enjoy, from one day to the next, a stroll directly from one’s yacht in Monaco’s Port Hercule down the mythical streets of Monte Carlo, with their luxury boutiques of haute couture, precious jewels and fine art, followed by a magical evening in one of the town’s legendary night clubs, perhaps Jimmy’z or the newer live music temple, Moods. Again, both are just minutes from the port.

And the next day, a total change of pace and scene – enjoy a leisurely gastronomic lunch, deep in Provence, on the Bastide de Moustier’s sun-soaked terrace (1 Michelin star), serenaded only by the cicadas. Observe the chefs gathering their products directly from the gardens and if you’re a foodie, do take up their offer to visit the kitchens. Just a short stroll away lies the picture-perfect village of Moustiers de Saint-Marie.

The same helicopter that flew you directly to this master potter’s country inn will whisk you away to Saint-Tropez, where your yacht awaits. Will it be a day lazing on one Pampelonne’s famous beaches and a late lunch at Club 55 or perhaps a short cruise to the unspoilt Porquerolle islands, to snorkel the Marine Park’s crystalline waters, followed by the freshest of fish at the Mas du Langoustier? And if a total pampering session sounds tempting, then the Château de la Messardiere, in Saint-Tropez, with its La Prairie line requires no introduction, unless one wishes to try the fresh option in neighbouring Ramatuelle at La Reserve – an exceptionally spacious spa, in a chic, contemporary setting. Choices, choices – that is really the secret of the Côte d’Azur’s perennial popularity.

eze village

Eze – a medieval village on the French Riviera is perhaps one of my favorite places for a day or evening in the south of France.

Offering breathtaking views with interesting walking and hiking trails including exotic gardens, quaint French boutiques and gastronomic delights, Castle Eze is steeped in rich history and culture dating back 220 years BC. I particularly enjoy a delightful and lengthy lunch at the Restaurant Château Eza featuring the four courses of the “Menu du Prince” overlooking the sea followed by a little shopping for a lovely objet d’art in the village!
