Shambhu Prakash Presidential Suite, Taj Lake Palace
The magic of this hotel begins before you even step foot inside: The marble-white facade appears to float right in the middle of Lake Pichola, and is accessed by gliding across the tranquil waters by boat. Formerly the residence of the Indian royal family, the hotel was built in 1743 by the royal dynasty of Mewar; it still retains some of the original features. The Shambhu Prakash Presidential Suite — named after the Maharana Shambhu Singh, who is highly regarded for his progressive reforms in the country — is regal and unashamedly decadent, with plush velvet and gilded accents. The resplendent one-bedroom suite spans 1,730 sq ft and has 24-hour butler service. The views from the balcony are spellbinding.
