Travel Diaries: Pondichérie Founder, Devon Fisher

By Emma

In our exciting new Travel Diaries series, Elite Traveler will speak with designers, style icons and gurus in their respective fields on their must-have travel items when trotting the globe.

Pondichérie Founder, Devon Fisher

Morocco

Devon Fisher  at Kasbah Tamadot

Pondichérie resortwear was founded by Devon Fisher. The line features chic handwoven and hand-dyed caftans and dresses with sustainably sourced textiles from India. Fisher comes from a philanthropic background and set out to employ women in areas that need it most, which is why her textiles are crafted in India and made locally in New York. Kauai-born Fisher created her line inspired by her upbringing in Kauai, Hawaii and her travels to Pondicherry, India. Read on for her must-have items when traveling to another place of inspiration: Morocco.

Inspiration

“Pondichérie’s designs are inspired by my travels and are rooted in that incredible jet-set feeling. When I’m in the studio designing, I like to transport myself back to my favorite travel memories, whether it’s dancing in the sand in Tulum with my closest friends or shopping for textiles in Marrakech with my husband. You can see that versatility in our pieces. They’re so easy to pack and they transition from pool to beach to dinner and back again quite effortlessly.

Veena Caftan, $245

Morocco has had a strong influence on my designs. Around the launch of our line my husband and I honeymooned in Morocco and we were able to see both the busy city life of Marrakesh and also the serenity of rural desert life. I was in a state of heightened inspiration the whole trip! From the range of pinks woven into beautiful rugs to intricately decorated rooms made up of 1,000 shades of blue, nothing impressed me more than the uniquely Moroccan use of color.”

Favorite Hotel

Kasbah Tamadot in the Atlas Mountains

Fisher loves experiencing both the country and city when she’s in Morocco. For a quieter getaway in the mountains, she loves Kasbah Tamadot, located in a village called Asni. The Virgin Limited Edition hotel founded by Sir Richard Branson is a 28-room-and-suite hotel with ten additional luxury Berber tents decorated in classic Moroccan furnishings. Whether you’re here for a wellness getaway or to escape the bustle of the city to relax in one of its many pools and lounges, there’s nothing more traditionally Moroccan than this.

La Mamounia in Marrakech

While in Marrakech, La Mamounia is her favorite. This royal estate from the 12th century is just minutes from the Jemaa el-Fnaa market and truly makes you feel like you’re part of Moroccan royalty. Stroll through the hotel’s Garden of Enchantment or visit spa to indulge in every kind of sensory experience, from the hammam to treatments with argan and local spices.

Favorite Moroccan Adventure

Desert Luxury Private Camp

“My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon at a private desert camp in the Sahara Desert. We rode camels at sunrise and sunset and stayed up late stargazing from remote sand dunes. It felt like one of those once-in-a-lifetime memories.” desertluxurycamp.com

Beauty Must-Haves

Credit: Tata Harper

“I’ll always travel with something extra moisturizing for my face during the flight. Right now I’m really loving Tata Harper’s Illuminating Moisturizer. Once you land in Morocco you’re going to need a face mist, I love Primally Pure’s Geranium Complexion Mist. If there’s time once I get to my hotel I’ll put on Skinceuticals Biocellulose Restorative Masque for a replenishing treatment while I’m getting settled.”

Travel Accessories

“Despite the in-flight inconvenience, I love traveling with a hat because it elevates most outfits with minimal effort. Plus, sun protection! I love traveling with my Janessa Leoné packable straw hat. For extra comfort I always bring a shawl or travel blanket (if I can squeeze it in my carry on).”
