The Tasting Room at Le Quartier Français Receives Interior Makeover to Complement Cuisine

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

Franschhoek, South Africa- Reported by Emily Misencik for Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine

The Tasting Room at Le Quartier Français recently received an interior design makeover, transforming the fine dining restaurant with new décor to complement executive chef Margot Janse’s cuisine. The interior overhaul turned into a family affair as Herbert Janse, a well-known Dutch set designer and Margot’s brother, flew in from Holland and spent intensive weeks redesigning the space. Guests at the newly redesigned restaurant will experience a unique African inspired surprise tasting menu in an intimate setting, exploring their culinary tastes with an evolving menu.

The restaurant’s new design breaks away from the stiffness and formality often associated with “fine dining.” The Tasting Room’s truly refine yet exciting atmosphere begins in the entranceway, which is wallpapered with turquoise candy foil wrapping from Paris with an Art Deco motif. A sense of warmth emerges from the entranceway and carries into the entrance hall, where guests immediately notice a large, square light. Over 2,000 balls with 20 randomly placed brighter balls are suspended from the base of the structure, creating a “starry sky” effect. The far wall also mimics nature with different colored ropes draped to resemble the nearby mountains in Franschhoek Valley. Inside the main dining room, antique crystal balls dating back to 1910 and a set of crockery appear on the ceiling. The combination of square and round tables without table cloths further demolishes any formal feel as guests focus on the cuisine.

The Tasting Room at Le Quartier Français is celebrating their new look with an exciting promotion. The restaurant is offering a companion fare promotion every Wednesday night until the end of August, in which guests pay for one dinner and the other dinner is on The Tasting Room. Please email restaurant@lqf.co.za and quote ‘Wednesday Companion Fare’ for more information.
