British Jewelers Launch Jewellers for Afghanistan Auction

Proceeds from the charitable auction will be donated directly to Women for Afghan Women.

By Kim Ayling

A collection of independent British jewelers have joined forces to raise funds for Afghan women via an online jewelry auction. Jewellers for Afghanistan will see pieces from 25 esteemed jewelers up for grabs, with all proceeds from the auction donated to Women for Afghan Women (WAW).

As the largest women’s organization in Afghanistan, WAW is dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights of disenfranchised Afghan women and girls, by providing education and support services, as well as supporting Afghan women seeking refuge in the United States.

Naturally, events in the past several months have made WAW’s work even more urgent, with the organization now focusing its efforts on evacuating women and families from Afghanistan, providing urgent shelter and resources to those in need, and supporting those who have already fled the country.

Among the line up of jewelers involved in the auction are esteemed names such as Theo Fennell, Pippa Small and Annoushka, as well as emerging talents such as Jessie Thomas and Gee Woods, all of which have donated a piece of jewelry each.

“What is going on is incredibly sad and terrifying, I am honored to help in some small way,” said Lucy Crowther of Minka Jewels, which has donated a pair of 14k gold and amethyst earrings. “I can’t quite believe this is happening in 2021 and just how quickly this all escalated. Women for Afghan Women is doing an incredible job and any support for them we should shout about.”

Other highlights on the line up include a pair of marigold diamond drop earrings by Sophie Theakston, a clustered diamond and citrine necklace by Ruth Tomlinson and a Bear Brooksbank vintage rose gold link bracelet.

The Jewellers for Afghanistan online auction will be hosted by London fine art auction house Rosberys, which, in order to ensure that 100% of proceeds can be donated directly to the charity, has waived its usual fees. Bidding will open on Monday, September 27 at 6am EST and will remain open for a week with final bids being taken on Monday, October 4.
