Mexico is set to have quite the year, with a plethora of the world’s most highly regarded luxury hotel groups having announced plans for new destinations in the country. Elite Traveler’s roundup of the most exciting hotel openings in Mexico 2021 lets you in on the destinations that should be at the top of your travel bucket list for the upcoming year.
With an opening date of January 15, Paradero Todos Santos is set to be one of the first luxury hotel openings in Mexico in 2021. Spread across five acres of untouched land, the landscape surrounding the hotel contains a diverse range of natural ecosystems, and to ensure the preservation and protection of the area, Unesco has designated Todos Santos as a biosphere reserve. The hotel will make full use of its unique surroundings with immersive activities such as surfing, farming tutorials, hiking and local tours all available to hotel guests.
The accommodations are set to reflect the diverse surrounding landscape, with the unique 35 suites ranging from 780 to 2,674 sq ft, encapsulating both indoor and outdoor space. The inviting Garden Suites are designed to blend seamlessly with nature, with an outdoor hot tub for ultimate relaxation. Alternatively, the Rooftop Suites will be distinguished by their panoramic private rooftop terraces with built-in star nets to make the most of the impressive views. However, for ultimate luxury, opt for the Master Casita, which combines the best of both the Rooftop and Garden suites.
Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo will mark the newest destination in Four Seasons’ expanse into Mexico. Situated in a protected eco-reserve on Mexico’s Costa Alegre, Tamarindo resort’s surrounding area is renowned for its picturesque beaches, lush foliage and distinctive topography.
As expected with any Four Seasons resort, in addition to the 155 guest rooms, Tamarindo will boast a plethora of first-class amenities including a fitness center, an 18-hole golf course and an expansive spa. Outside the resort, a host of immersive activities are available to guests, all of which celebrate the culture and scenery of this unique part of the world – from whale watching on the coast to exploring the markets in the local towns.
Although Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo has not yet announced an official opening date, as with any Four Seasons opening, it is already promising to deliver a new meaning to the idea of luxury travel in this beautiful part of Mexico.
Habitas aims to pave the way for a new breed of luxury hospitality by putting sustainability and environmental preservation at the core of its operations. Following a flagship launch in Tulum in 2017, the group is now venturing farther into Mexico with the opening of Habitas Bacalar in early 2021.
Situated on the pristine shores of Laguna Bacalar near the Mexico/Belize border, the new Habitas Bacalar will be built with the group’s core principles of sustainability at the forefront of the entire process. Comprising 35 tented rooms, the accommodations are expertly designed to blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings, with only environmentally friendly materials and methods used throughout.
In order to facilitate meaningful change, Habitas is on a mission to ensure that its philosophy lasts longer than just a vacation. Guests are encouraged to immerse themselves in the group’s way of thinking and form deeper relationships with the Earth via a series of grounding experiences. Although dependent on the guest, these experiences may include stromatolite conservation activities and authentic wellness treatments such as temazcal ceremonies.
