As the capital of India’s southern Telangana state, Hyderabad is considered an international hub for technology, as well as being known for its regal history. Both the old and new identity that this city is defined by is reflected through its diverse dining scene. From dining rooms and menus inspired by Indian Royalty to contemporary venues offering international cuisine, here’s our pick of the best restaurants in Hyderabad.
Within the resplendent surroundings that the Taj Hotel Falaknuma Palace provides, this restaurant offers an elegant setting in which to dine on classic Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. While the restaurant’s grandeur makes the first impression, the sumptuous modern European plates from a menu of gourmet pizza and pasta dishes, and fine antipasti, soon become the focus.
Also located within Taj Hotel Falaknuma Palace, Adaa fine dining restaurant exudes the same classic elegance as its sister eatery, but the cuisine it specializes in takes its inspiration from closer to home. Here, a menu of slow-cooked Indian Hyderabadi fare reflects the cuisine that India’s Royal kitchen is celebrated for.
One of Hyderabad’s most revered restaurants, Jewel of Nizam is located within its own tower, with an elevated position affording panoramic views of its forested surroundings and across Osman Sagar lake. Here, the restaurant’s opulent interiors provide a regal setting for a Mughlai and Afghani fine dining experience.
Providing one of the most unique dining experiences to be had in Hyderabad, Sahib Sindh Sultan restaurant is designed to replicate a classic 1850s Pullman-style train carriage. And aside from being a novel dinner setting, the restaurant also boasts excellent North Indian cuisine. Reminiscent of Indian Royalty and the British Raj, the restaurant’s menu encompasses cuisine of several states, along with an extensive wine list.
Founded by the Bollywood actor Nagarjuna Akkineni and renowned entrepreneur Nalla Prettham Reddy, N Grill has a steadfast position among the restaurants to be seen in here. Encompassing a bar, dining space and outdoor patio area, all with Thai-inspired décor, the venue exudes a lively ambiance within which global cuisine and cocktails are served.
Situated in the Taj Krishna hotel, Firdaus exhibits elegance through its regal Indian décor and sparkling chandeliers. Here, chef Nitin curates a menu of local fine dining plates, such as an interpretation of the local stew Hyderabadi haleem, and a dish of lamb shanks simmered in yogurt and spices known as Nalli Gosht. As the host of Hyderabadi food festivals within the Taj hotels, chef Nitin has become known in this city for his cuisine.
