World Whisky Day started in 2012, and now, the international holiday gives you reason to pour yourself a dram of your favorite expression or whip up a cocktail infused with the precious spirit. Read on for some of Elite Traveler’s favorite whisky (and whiskey) cocktails we’ve published throughout the year.

Coal Train

  • 1.25 oz Michter’s Rye
  • .75 oz Clement 10 Year Rhum Agricole
  • .5 oz Tempus Fugit Crème de Banana
  • .25 oz Amargo Vallet
  • Lemon twist

First add bitters, then the liqueur and then the rye whiskey. Pour over a big ice cube in a rocks glass and stir. Finish with a lemon twist. Read more about the cocktail

Burns Night Whisky Cocktail

  • 40ml Chivas 12
  • 15ml rhubarb bitters
  • 15ml Cynar Amaro
  • Maraschino cherry to garnish

Combine all ingredients, stir and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry. Learn more about this cocktail

Knappogue Castle Irish Whiskey

Crossing Currents

  • 2 oz Knappogue Castle 12 Year Old Irish Whiskey
  • .75 oz Contratto Bianco
  • 1 tsp Kalani Coconut Liqueur
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • Lemon peel twist

Ming Julep

  • 7cl Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Solera Reserve infused with green shiso
  • 5cl homemade coconut flower syrup
  • Crushed ice
  • Green shiso leaf and coconut powder to farnish

To make, combine Glenfiddich infused with green shiso leaf and coconut flower syrup and pour over crushed ice. Garnish with green shiso leaf and coconut powder. Read more on this cocktail

Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas

Prohibition Old Fashioned

  • 2 oz Whistle Pig 10 Year Rye
  • 25 oz tawny port 20 year
  • 5 oz Vermont maple syrup
  • 3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 3 dashes cherry bitters

Combine all ingredients together and stir with ice. Strain in a rocks glass over a large ice cube and garnish with a maraschino cherry and orange twist. Read more on this cocktail here.
