To Launch The Dàlat At 1200 Country Club & Private Estate

By Zahra Al-Kateb

The eagerly anticipated 2015 launch of The Dàlat at 1200 Country Club & Private Estate encompasses much more than the promise of luxury hill-station living and the elite professional golf experience.

Drawing from its flourishing and fertile surrounds, the Resort has used the footprint of its natural terrain and topography to shape an exclusive and organic experience, one abundant in clean air, fresh produce and natural landscapes.

The 18 hole championship golf course celebrates its space and setting alongside its clubhouse and residential villas under development; where every measure to be self-sufficient and sustainable has been taken. The golf course weaves around majestic century-old pine trees – only young trees were removed in the design process when absolutely necessary, planting 10 new trees for every one cut and utilising this wood for cladding and aesthetics. Local heron and egret sanctuaries were preserved during the course creation, truly integrating an at-one-with-nature golf experience.

“While we have drawn inspiration from our local landscape in designing The Dàlat at 1200 Country Club & Private Estate, we haven’t taken it for granted. We have considered sustainability in every process and sought to enhance the region’s offering with our initiatives, which will include solar energy grids and cultivation of our rich soil to supply organic on-site produce In addition, the rain water will be harvested into our various reservoirs, ponds and lake for irrigation purposes or, to be filtered as fresh water. We proudly celebrate our pure, natural and unique micro-environment and look forward to sharing it with golfers and guests next year,” comments Kay Hwa Tang, Executive Director of The Dàlat at 1200 Country Club & Private Estate.

According to some, the name of the city is derived from the Latin phrase “Dat Ailis Laetitium Ailis Temperiem” (It Gives Pleasure to Some, Freshness to Others). The city of Dà Lat is located in Vietnam’s picturesque South Central Highlands and – with its temperate climate, cultural heritage and outdoor adventures – is a popular tourist destination and exclusive escape from the sweltering southern summers and blistering northern winters. A nature lover’s paradise, it’s a cosmopolitan city bordered by some of the most awe-inspiring scenery, testament to DàLat’s many nature-inspired names.

Travelling the winding roads to the highland city, the carpet of pine forest becomes a canopy of pine trees – a lush entrance and explanation for the term The City of Thousands of Pine Trees. Pine trees encircle the Resort, availing our guests to views of rolling course greens that meet forest foliage for verdant vistas as far as the eye can see. The mist covered valleys and seemingly endless season of spring – which makes the use of bent grass green possible at the Resort, unique for Asian courses – has resulted in the endearment The City of Eternal Spring.

It is this mild climate – with a mean temperature of 22 degrees Celsius and contrast to Vietnam’s otherwise tropical climate – that has resulted in Dà Lat being dubbed Vietnam’s Vegetable Garden. The soil and growing conditions make it possible for year-round produce that is exported across Asia – renowned for both its freshness and flavour. Everything from avocados and artichokes, broccoli and beetroot, cauliflower and carrots, pumpkin and potatoes to sweetcorn and sweet potato, plums and peaches, strawberries, mulberries and persimmon ‘milk fruit’. Not to mention tea, coffee and Dà Lat wine – a favourite al fresco pastime with chic cafes dotted around the city. The local sturgeon, ‘black gold’ caviar is the most-exclusive dining pleasure.

At the Resort, plans for a kitchen garden are well underway, with herbs and vegetables already established in some areas and the ‘resident’ chickens supplying organic eggs. The course envelops a few natural rice fields, which is being further cultivated to supply ‘in-house’ rice.

It’s difficult not to also spot the rainbow of colour embellishing the region’s picturesque panoramas. The City of Flowers is famous for its orchids and roses, hydrangeas and tree marigolds, golden everlasting and lilies, chrysanthemum and carnations – exported and appreciated around the world.

With its cobbled streets and interesting architecture punctuated with French influences and local heritage – and placid lakes, evergreen forests, dramatic waterfalls and unspoilt mountain trails – it’s easy to see why Dà Lat has inspired many and been coined Le Petit Paris.

Celebrating all these aspects, The Dàlat at 1200 Country Club & Private Estate offers guests one of the most lush and scenic golf courses in the world; some of the freshest ‘zero miles’ produce on its clubhouse menu; the region’s purest air; and a natural sustainable haven with easy access to DàLat’s city life. It’s the epitome of healthy living, balancing active outdoor pursuits and rejuvenating relaxing experiences.
