Spa of the Week: Spa at Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo

By Emma

Tucked into the lush hillside of Costa Rica’s resort and residential community, Peninsula Papagayo, the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo recently debuted a newly re-imagined destination spa to delight worldly travelers. Featuring treatments with localized ingredients and techniques, the spa is a can’t-miss if you find yourself in this tropical destination.

The spa’s new decor feature neutral and natural-textured hues, furniture and wall coverings for a serene experience. Dimly lit hallways and treatment rooms immediately calm the body and mind before you retreat to one of 18 spa treatment rooms for a delightful massage, facial or wellness-centric treatments. In the spa, you’ll find a pre-treatment relaxation lounge, post-treatment cabanas and men’s and women’s locker rooms with stream rooms, private saunas, private showers, a whirlpool and an outdoor terrace with ocean views. You can also choose to spend your afternoon in the hot and cold hydrotherapy pools after a decadent treatment. The new spa concept, which focuses on wellness, also included a Hammam room where you can be treated to an authentic Turkish bath experience and ayurvedic spa treatments that focus on wellness from the inside out.

We suggest booking the Shirodhara treatment, which the resort calls its ‘most meditative and relaxing treatment.’ This 60-minute treatment includes a back and shoulder massage before warm coconut milk is poured over the forehead onto the sixth chakra (said to be your ‘intuitive energetic center’). As one of the spa’s wellness ritual treatments, this helps to combat stress, anxiety and insomnia. We also love the Turkish Hammam body treatment – a deep-cleaning exfoliation using traditional techniques and leaving the body positively glowing. No matter which treatment you choose, it’s impossible to be disappointed.

While there, stay at Casa Del Cielo Residence Estate – the resort’s largest and most luxurious accommodation. Bring extended family or a group of friends, as the house comfortably sleeps up to 14. Expansive terraces, open-plan living spaces, an exquisite wraparound pool and plenty of details, like a barbecue area, games areas and a full entertainment system is enough to keep you occupied.
