Spa of the Week: The Kempinski Spa at Kempinski Hotel Berchtesgaden, Germany

By Emma

Situated at the foothills of the Bavarian Alps in Germany, the Kempinski Hotel Berchtesgaden is alpine luxury in one of the country’s most picturesque locations. When you’re not enjoying the endless outdoor activities or perusing the city’s many cultural landmarks, retreat to The Kempinski Spa for a mind-body wellness experience that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and restored.

The alpine-chic spa has a seasonal menu that changes based on the European seasons. If you’re visiting in the winter, indulge in the Winter Warmer Energizing massage that focuses on painful joints and stiffness; come spring, opt for the Spring In Your Step Detoxing that works on the lymphatic system to drain toxins and stimulate circulation; the Summer Bliss massage cools and calms the body; and the Autumn Sleep Relaxing helps you relax via aromatherapy and a therapeutic head massage. Pairing specific treatments with the season helps you reset from the different ailments that plague us in cold weather versus warm weather.

Not only does nature influence the treatments, but the ingredients as well. Ingredients, such as natural herbs, are harvested from the local flora the Alps provide, as well as salt from the local salt mine. Opt for the Salt Stone Massage or the Thermal Alpine Herb Massage to reap the benefits of these natural, locally sourced ingredients. The spa also offers manicures, pedicures, waxing and lash tinting in addition to scrubs, wraps and seasonal facials. There’s an entire men’s menu for facials, gentlemen’s manicures and pedicures and back scrubs (great for tired muscles).

Once you’re finished with your treatment, take to the heated indoor or outdoor pool, sun terrace, steam bath, Finnish saunas, an infrared cabin, solarium, or meditation lounge with floating water beds. You can also take up yoga or hire a personal trainer during the duration of your stay.

Book the Maisonette Suite for a private, chalet-inspired experience. It spans two floors and has a 130-ft private terrace so you can enjoy coffee or breakfast outside. The 1,658-sq-ft one-bedroom suite has a fireplace, living room and entertainment center so you’ll feel  pampered after a chilly winter’s day outside. We love the dramatic views of the landscape and the privacy of this suite.
