Spa of the Week: Andaz Scottsdale

By Lauren Jade Hill

By Lauren Jade Hill

The New Andaz Scottsdale Resort opened its doors for the very first time in December 2016, and now the new resort has announced the opening of its on-site retreat, Palo Verde Spa & Apothecary. Spread across 23 acres of Paradise Valley, north of Old Town Scottsdale in Arizona, the mid-century inspired resort sits amid towering 50-foot pine trees and desert wildflowers, with views of Camelback Mountain. The new Palo Verde Spa is designed to reflect the calming and healing qualities of this desert setting by placing the focus on the botanical ingredients from the surrounding landscape.

With a wellness philosophy that’s based on the natural healing powers of the earth’s sacred resources, each of the personalized treatments on the spa menu utilizes the unique and indigenous ingredients of the region. The addition of a Desert Blending Bar then means guests can create their own combinations of ingredients to be used in the spa treatments, with the expert guidance of a local Sedona botanist ensuring the ingredients fit their wellness goals. In this way, each guest’s time at the spa is tailored to become their own personal journey.

While the Andaz package, Work of Art, affords guests three spa treatments of their choice, the Time for Two Handcrafted option enables the guest to personalize a 60 or 90-minute massage or facial at the Aroma Blend Bar. Other treatments included within the extensive menu range from Himalayan Salt Stone Massage and a Prickly Pear Body Therapy, to a Desert Dreaming Ritual consisting of a custom-made body scrub and hydrating jojoba butter mask, steamy aromatic compresses, the spa’s signature jojoba hair and scalp treatment, and a prickly pear facial massage.

The spa alone spans 12,000 square feet of space, which encompasses four indoor and three outdoor treatment rooms, outdoor hydrotherapy pools, a nail and hair salon, eucalyptus steam rooms, outdoor relaxation lounges, and a private pool that’s exclusively for guests of the spa. With such luxurious facilities, and treatments that are made unique by their specialist use of desert ingredients and local knowledge, this new spa is one that’s certainly on our radar.
