Curse of Lo Pan

  • 2 oz Beefeater 24 Gin
  • 1 egg white
  • 3/4 oz lemon
  • 1/2 oz jasmine pearl/ matcha syrup
  • 1/2 oz coco mix

To create our Cocktail of the Week, combine ingredients into a coupe glass and garnish with matcha powder.

The start of the New Year has everyone feeling rejuvenated and ready for a cocktail that’s just as refreshing. Our almost too-pretty-to-drink choice this week was created by Ray Sakover for Slowly Shirley in New York.

“The Curse of Lo Pan is a perennial cocktail that may be had anytime of the year,” said Sakover, speaking to Elite Traveler. “So unless you are beginning your New Year with ‘Dry January,’ Curse of Lo Pan is an excellent choice for anyone interested in trying a fun and different way to enjoy gin. And if your New Year’s resolution is to live a healthier lifestyle or to lose weight, matcha does boast a myriad of health benefits that include antioxidants, a boost to the immune system, heightened awareness, detoxification and it helps to increase your metabolism.”

To taste, the matcha and jasmine pearl complement the botanicals of the gin like Japanese Sencha tea and Chinese Green tea. The cocktail features floral notes from jasmine, tannins from matcha and a sweetness from coconut and egg white balanced by fresh lemon juice. Healthy and delicious? Keep ’em coming.

In the city’s trendy West Village, Slowly Shirley is a haven reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour. From its jazzy soundtrack to its Art Deco decor, the space is designed to give guests the Golden Age treatment with modern touches. House cocktails recall film favorites– like the gin North by Northwest or sparkling Ingrid Bergman– with classic old fashioneds, manhattans and martinis also on the menu.

Slowly Shirley is located at 121 West 10th Street, New York, NY 10011 (below The Happiest Hour). For more information, please visit slowlyshirley.com.
