Glitterati on the Go

By Chris Boyle

QUEEN OF THE NILE

Vanessa Williams

Multifaceted entertainer Vanessa Williams has developed a fondness for Egypt.

Booking through the luxury travel company Abercrombie & Kent, she’s visited several times and as recently as 2012. “The managing director, Amr Badr, is phenomenal there,” Williams said. “They’ll take great care of you and they’re giving discounts now because they need the tourism. You’ll be completely safe. There’s nothing like walking in the Pyramids, going to the Museum of Antiquities, cruising up the Nile, going to Abu Simbel—you can’t duplicate those trips.”

She’s used the same Egyptologist, Azza Ammar, since she first went with a women’s group in 2005. Since then, she’s returned for weddings and to take her youngest daughter, who was studying Egypt. On her most recent visit, Williams stayed in Cairo and El Gouna, a self-contained resort town near Hurghada. It will be a little while before Williams can go back, as the actress and singer is in New York preparing for her return to Broadway in the revival of The Trip to Bountiful, which begins previews March 31 and opens April 23. She can also be seen in Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor, which hits theaters March 29 and also stars Kim Kardashian.

MATCH POINT

Roger Federer

Tennis star Roger Federer made the day for a teenage fan who skipped her final exam in school to travel 1,000 miles to Buenos Aires in hopes of catching a glimpse of her idol.

Fans waited until 4 a.m. outside Algodon Mansion, the luxury boutique hotel where Federer stayed in an Algodon Royale Suite. Eight non-hotel security guards were on duty when he entered and exited. Still, Federer stopped to sign autographs, including one for the teenage girl. He also took photos and signed memorabilia for the hotel staff. Although he was in South America for an exhibition tour that also made stops in Brazil and Colombia, he took time out to visit Iguazu Falls.

BALL’S IN HER COURT

Stephen Curry

When the NBA season ends, Stephen Curry, a guard with the Golden State Warriors, prefers to head to a warm destination with a beach.

Bora Bora, where he stayed at the Four Seasons, and Maui are two of his previous spots. “Bora Bora is awesome with the huts on the water,” he said. Curry will happily delay his vacation this year should the Warriors make the playoffs as expected. Where he goes is mostly left up to his wife. “I like to see where she likes to go and make her happy,” he said.
