Where to See the Total Solar Eclipse 2017

By Lauren Jade Hill

As it follows a path likened to the total eclipse of 1918, the 2017 solar eclipse will be visible along the line stretching between Salem, Oregon and Charleston, South Carolina from West to East Coast. As the moon moves in front of it, the sun will be completely obscured at successive times along the route on August 21st. With the specific locations it can be seen from in mind, we take a look at some of the best places to witness the total solar eclipse 2017.

The Vineyards of Salem, Oregon

Festivals and events will be held in honor of the occasion within Salem and its surroundings. Of these events, the Wine Country Eclipse will combine music and wine tasting with the main celestial event. Across the weekend Willamette Valley Vineyards is then set to host a Solar Eclipse Open House with wine tasting, educational presentations and live music. A commemorative Solar Eclipse Pinot Noir and Chardonnay will be available to buy. Go over to wvv.com for more information.

Celebration on the Square in Dallas, Oregon

This four-day festival will take place on the Polk County Courthouse Lawn of Historic Downtown Dallas. Live music, nightly concerts, artisanal food, a wine garden and movies will be hosted across the four days, but the highlight will of course be the moment the moon eclipses the sun. Find out more about the event by going over to exploredallasoregon.org.

Capital Eclipse in Jefferson City, Missouri

Bringing together entertainment, art and astronomy, Jefferson City will play host to a series of performances, tours, exhibitions and viewing events across the eclipse weekend, including the Total Eclipse of the Park festival. See what events are taking place at capitaleclipse.org.

Grand Estate to Rooftop Bar in Nashville, Tennessee

The Music City will undoubtedly be among the most popular places to see the eclipse with an array of events taking place. Cheekwood Estate & Gardens is among the grandest settings to view it from as it hosts a Solar Viewing Party within its grounds. Among the city’s rooftop bars, the George Jones Rooftop Bar is perhaps the most famous and it’s here that the Moon Monday Solar Eclipse Rooftop Party will be held.

Baseball in Charleston, South Carolina

One of the stand-out events in this port city is the Eclipse Baseball Game. See the Charleston RiverDogs play at Joseph P.Riley Park and witness the total solar eclipse while you’re there. Special guests from NASA will also be making an appearance.
