Valentine’s Day Luxury Travel Ideas

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

The Beau-Rivage Palace in Lausanne, Switzerland (www.brp.ch) is offering a special Valentine’s Day package including a one-night stay, welcome glass of champagne, buffet breakfast, complimentary “Red Passion” cocktail, full access to spa and fitness center and choice of one 50-minute massage for two in the stunning Cinq Mondes Spa. Rates start at approximately $740 per night, available February 6-8, 13-15 and 20-22.

Hotel Fouquet’s Barrière, Paris, France (www.fouquets-barriere.com) has created the “Paris C’est L’Amour” package to capture the essence of romance just as Robert Doisneau did in his famous photo, Le Baiser (The Kiss), photographed in Paris in 1950. Guests are taken out for a one-hour photo shoot on the Parisian streets with a professional black-and-white photographer–the perfect setup for another old-time “kiss.” The package includes a make-up session, welcome caviar and champagne, breakfast each morning, a champagne dinner at the hotel’s Le Diane restaurant, transportation to and from the airport and a private, chauffeur-driven “Paris-by-night” tour in either a 2CV convertible or a Peugeot C6 (President Chirac’s vehicle). The package costs approximately $2,080 per night based on double occupancy and a two-night minimum stay is required.

The Merrion, Dublin, Ireland (www.merrionhotel.com), arguably Dublin’s most romantic hotel, offers three unique packages this Valentine’s season. To experience a taste of the romance, enjoy “Lasting Love” throughout the month of February, which includes an overnight stay, full Irish breakfast, rosé champagne, heart-shaped chocolates and red roses for approximately $512 per couple per night. To get a little sweeter, the “All Loved Up” package offers all of these amenities, in addition to an overnight stay on February 14th and a formal three-course Valentine’s Night dinner for approximately $714 per couple per night. Finally, the sexiest package of them all is the “Real Love,” which includes all the amenities of “Lasting Love” in addition to a Champagne Afternoon Tea and tickets to the play The Real Thing at the Gate Theatre, available February 13-15. Rates start at approximately $694 per couple per night.
Algodon Wine Estates (www.algodonwineestates.com) in San Rafael Mendoza, Argentina is offering guests “A Gaucho Weekend” this Valentine’s Day, highlighting the best of Argentinean food and wine including two nights in a double room, private transfers to and from airport, daily fresh fruit from the estate, daily breakfast for two, an asado dinner for two with wines from Algodon Wine Estates, in-room couple’s massage, one personal wine tasting and tour of the winery with Algodon Wine Estate’s Sommelier, gift of two bottles of Argentinean Bonarda with a personalized label, one hour of horseback riding around the estate, a golf cart tour of the estate and a round of golf or private golf lesson. The best news: the package costs $770 per couple for three days and two nights.

The Hassler Roma (www.hotelhassler.com), perched atop the Spanish Steps with an unprecedented view of the Eternal City below, invites lovers from around the world for a special San Valentino escape this February 12-14.  The three-night package includes luxury accommodations for two, daily buffet breakfast for two, dinner for two at the hotel’s panoramic rooftop restaurant Imago – with a special Valentine’s Day menu created by Chef Francesco Apreda – a bottle of Italian sparkling wine, a special in-room gift, and last but not least, a rose for the bella donna.  The package is priced from approximately $1,837. To make the experience even more unique, guests can add on additional activities such as a helicopter ride, massage in the Hassler’s Amorvero Spa, or bike rentals.

Amanjena (www.amanresorts.com), located in romantically exotic Marrakech, showcases all the elegance of a sultan’s palace and helps guests discover the legendary wonders of Morocco with a three-night Medina Winter Sojourn that includes a private guided tour of the Medina, one massage per person and daily Continental breakfast. The offer is valid from now through March 15, 2009.  Rates start at $3,820 per couple in one of the 32 spacious rose-toned pavilions.

Çırağan Palace Kempinski (www.kempinski-istanbul.com) invites travelers to celebrate St. Valentine in Istanbul this year. On February 13 and 14, Çırağan Palace is offering two nights accommodation in a Superior Sea View room and such VIP amenities as a heart-shaped cake, chocolates, sparkling local wine, a seven-course dinner for two at Laledan Restaurant and buffet breakfast at Laledan Restaurant. Rates start at approximately $945 per couple, plus 8% VAT.

Zeavola Resort, Phi Phi Island, Thailand (www.zeavola.com) celebrates romance with a luxurious Zpa Package.  After a short speedboat ride from nearby Phuket, couples indulge in the seclusion of a Village Suite at the beautiful seaside Zeavola resort on the island’s northernmost tip, along with 60-minute spa treatments of the couple’s choosing-including scrubs, masks, wraps, facials and massages. The package is priced from approximately $255 per night, based on double occupancy and exclusive of taxes and service charges.
