“The Unique” Blancpain enameled timepiece has auctioned for 1,100,100 RMB (US$177,000) during an exclusive charity gala dinner in Shanghai. Over 300 guests attended the event, including Blancpain executives, Chinese cultural scholar Liang Wendao and TV host Dou Wentao.
The micro-painted enamel on The Unique is considered as one of the most difficult traditional enamel processes. The unique Villeret piece is made of 18K red gold, with a depiction of dancing butterflies. The back of the movement showcases a distinctive carving technique, with the written characters “Pièce Unique” increasing the collection value. For the artwork, Blancpain revived the classic image of the oriental painting on the 45mm diameter dial. The micro-painted enamel has a transparent and smooth luster, and has been achieved through a pain-staking process of brush stroking and firing.
Money raised at the auction was donated to the China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe (CDPPAT), continuing Blancpain’s commitment to social welfare charities. Founded in 1987, and traveling around the world with more than 60 countries visited, CDPPAT presents performances that celebrate the beauty of life and the strength to overcome limitations.
