The Broadmoor, the Five-Star, Five-Diamond resort located in Colorado Springs, officially opened its Cloud Camp wilderness retreat on August 15.

Cloud Camp is set on the historic 1924 site of Broadmoor founder Spencer Penrose’s original Cheyenne Lodge, 3,000 feet above The Broadmoor Resort. At an elevation of 9,200 feet, the retreat boasts impressive views of Pikes Peak to the north and the Colorado Rockies to the west. Guests can marvel at the surrounding wilderness from the property’s expansive wrap-around deck.

“From its spectacular locale atop Cheyenne Mountain, to its inspiring culinary program, Cloud Camp is a truly unique experience for our guests. Introducing the property to our growing Wilderness Experience portfolio, which also includes The Ranch at Emerald Valley, The Broadmoor’s Fishing School, and The Broadmoor’s Fishing Camp, continues to define our commitment to offering exceptional, and varied, guest experiences,” said Tina Harlow, general manager of Cloud Camp.

broadmoor1Upon entrance, guests find an 8,000-square-foot Main Lodge, which has been designed to capture the feel of historic timber and stone lodges found in the United States’ great national parks. This rustic elegance is accomplished by hand-hewn beans, two stone fireplaces, and art depicting the great American West. Ideal for both group retreats and leisure travelers, the property’s great room features Adirondack chair rockers and a dining table for 28, while the library offers a selection of books and board games.

The Broadmoor’s Cloud Camp sleeps a total of 56 guests, and rooms feature hickory wood flooring, hickory paneled wood walls, and custom designed feather beds. Unique to the wilderness retreat is the Fire Tower Suite, perched 145 steps atop the historic Colorado fire tower with stunning 360-degree views.

Inspired by the culinary club for Philadelphia bluebloods that Spencer Penrose brought to Colorado Springs in 1914, Cloud Camp’s cuisine celebrates the life of Penrose during the Golden Age of the 1920s. The reimagined interpretations of the time period include Beef Wellington, Duck a l’Orange, Filets de Sole Newburg, and Apple Tarte Tatin. The retreat’s signature beverages include Spiced Rum Punch and Hot Toddies.

All-inclusive rates for double occupancy at Cloud Camp begin at $600 per night.
