The Ultimate Nightcap: Limited Edition Louis XIII Rare Cognac Makes Debut at St Regis Atlanta

louis XIII rare cask arrival_Guests and patrons at the luxurious St. Regis Atlanta will be among the lucky few to have the first opportunity in Georgia to taste the highly coveted Louis XIII Rare Cask 42,6, which arrived at the hotel last week, in fitting luxury escorted in a 1935 Duesenberg.

Seldom do the forces of nature align to create the remarkable occurrence that is Louis XIII Rare Cask. The discovery of one unique barrel among the hundreds of century-old tierçons that will become LOUIS XIII, is indeed a miracle that cannot be explained or replicated by human intervention.

Such is Louis XIII Rare Cask 42,6, only the second distinctive barrel to be discovered in the venerable Cognac’s nearly 140-year history – reflecting the complex unpredictability of nature as well as the contributions of four generations of gifted cellar masters.

This exceptional tierçon contained only enough cognac to produce 738 decanters of Rare Cask 42,6, which are being distributed to a select list of retailers and establishments around the world.  Each decanter is engraved with a unique number from 001 to 738.

The rare blend offers an exquisite taste profile featuring an incredible richness and aromatic intensity, and an alcoholic strength of 42.6 percent alcohol by volume, slightly higher than the 40 percent of classic Louis XIII.

The precious decanter was personally hand-delivered today by Rémy Cointreau USA Vice President of Prestige Brands Yves de Launay, fittingly in a 1935 Duesenberg convertible, which originally belonged to the late Madeline Astor, wife of St. Regis founder John Jacob Astor IV.

A tasting of Rare Cask 42,6 will be available at the hotel’s iconic St. Regis Bar, and will be available to patrons in different-sized pours starting at $1,200 for a 1/2 ounce.

louis XIII rare cask_462“We are thrilled to be one of the few U.S. locations and the only St. Regis property to offer the Louis XIII Rare Cask 42,6 cognac,” said Senih Geray, general manager of St. Regis Atlanta.

“It’s an honor to carry a spirit of such prestige and exclusivity, which aligns well with the premier offerings we serve in The St. Regis Bar, modeled after the famed King Cole Bar at The St. Regis New York.“

de Launay added: “The St. Regis Atlanta is an incredibly fitting home for one of our RARE CASK 42,6 decanters, the only place in Georgia for guests to enjoy a taste of this exquisite cognac.”

Louis XIII Rare Cask 42,6 celebrates the classic Louis XIII blend of 1,200 eaux-de-vie, 100 years in the making, here featuring salient aromas that are unique to this one precious cask. Discovered in the  fall,  it appropriately  features  autumnal  notes  of plum  and  dates,  mingling with flavors  of gingerbread, prune stone and ginger, and punctuated by a final touch of tobacco leaf.

The iconic black crystal decanter for the Louis XIII Rare Cask collection was created exclusively by Baccarat, utilizing all the skill and expertise of the famed crystal house’s talented masters. A team of more than 20 master craftsmen complete more than 50 steps in creating a single Rare Cask decanter, all of which must be carried out while maintaining the opaque crystal at a constant temperature.

Rare Cask is also available by the glass at other select establishments across the US, including Los Angeles’ Ago and The Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills, New York’s Del Frisco’s and the New York Palace and Bern’s Steakhouse in Tampa.

Decanters of Louis XIII Rare Cask 42,6 will be priced at approximately $22,000 retail (excluding sales tax).
