Korean Air Has Best On Time Performance Of All Major Airlines

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

Korean Air led all major global airlines in on-time performance last year according to the world’s largest aircraft manufacturers. According to Boeing and Airbus, 99.86 percent of Korean Air’s flights departed on schedule in 2008, an increase from 99.83 percent a year earlier. Boeing and Airbus have been announcing annual on-time reports since 2005. The reports include airlines with 5,000 flights or more a year and incorporate delays and cancellations. The on-time performance percentage is calculated by dividing the total number of flights departing within 15 minutes of their scheduled time by the total number of actual flights. Four of the five jets that Korean Air uses – the B737-800, B737-900, A300-600, B777 and B747 – ranked first in on-time departures, while its A330 fleet ranked second.

“This is a great honor and recognition of something that we work at very diligently,” says John Jackson, Korean Air’s Director of Marketing for the Americas. “It’s all part of customer service which is the real differentiator among the majors. We can fly anyone anywhere they need to go and get them there on time.”

Korean Air, with a fleet of 124 aircraft, operates almost 400 passenger flights per day to 116 cities in 39 countries and is considered one of the world’s top 20 airlines.

In 2008, Business Traveler magazine honored Korean Air as having the “Best Transpacific Business Class” and ranked it “The Best Airline in Asia”; World Traveler magazine rated it has having the world’s best in-flight service; readers of Travel & Leisure magazine said it is one of the world’s top 10 international airlines, and readers of Condé Nast Traveler magazine voted it has having one of the world’s top five business classes.

Korean Air is a founding member of SkyTeam, the global airlines alliance – partnering Aeroflot, AeroMexico, Air France, Alitalia, China Southern Airlines, CSA Czech Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, KLM and three Associates to provide customers with extensive worldwide destinations, flights and services.
