BVI Billfish Tournament Returns to Bitter End

By Pardhasaradhi Gonuguntla

Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands – Reported by Elite Traveler, the private jet lifestyle magazine

“Reel” good times are in store at the Bitter End Yacht Club in the British Virgin Islands for this year’s annual BVI Billfish Tournament. The fourth running of this popular catch-and-release blue marlin fishing tournament will take place from July 30 through August 2, 2012 at the North Drop, an area just 13-30 miles from Bitter End on Virgin Gorda in the BVI.

Competitors of all types, from the serious sport fisherman to the casual caster, are welcome, whether in their own boats or in locally chartered ones. Participants will spend the day casting out for prize-winning billfish in one of the best blue marlin fishing sites on the planet. After fishing from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., participants will return to the resort for image review and scoring, as well as for great food and libations, relaxation, and enjoyment after a long day on the turquoise-blue waters of the BVI. All boats participating in the 2012 BVI Billfish Tournament will receive a complimentary membership to Bitter End’s Quarterdeck Club (a $500 value). The tournament size is limited to 20 boats, so early registration is strongly suggested.

If the recently renovated, state-of-the-art Quarterdeck Marina at Bitter End Yacht Club and the ideal fishing conditions of the BVI aren’t enough to lure in the relaxed reeler, the amenities and non-fishing offerings at the Bitter End Yacht Club should be. Family and friends of competitors are welcome, with many exhilarating experiences to be had at BEYC and throughout the BVI. The monthly Full Moon Parties happen to coincide with the end of the Billfish Tournament as well, occurring on August 3rd, with a rollicking good time to be had at Bomba’s Shack and a more family-friendly Fireball Party held at Trellis Bay in Tortola.

The welcoming Caribbean spirit is in abundance at the Bitter End Yacht Club, where BVI Billfishing Tournament participants and spectators can take advantages of the resort’s Angler’s Bed & Breakfast Special or the Admiral’s Family Vacation Package. The Angler’s Special starts at just $325 per night for two in a North Sound Suite and includes breakfast daily. The Family Package includes three meals daily, unlimited use of the Club fleet, an Introduction to Sailing Course, and access to the resort amenities and tournament parties – fun for the entire family!
