Hill_Top_FarmBeatrix Potter purchased Hill Top in 1905 having fallen in love with the Lake District, and it soon became the setting for some of her Original Tales, such as The Tale of Samuel Whiskers in 1908, for which she used the exterior and interior views of Hill Top in her illustrations.

Beatrix Potter spent as much time as possible at Hill Top until her death in 1945, when it was bequeathed to the National Trust. Since then the house has become a popular tourist destination from people all over the world.
