3 Watches with Superb Diamonds

By Chris Boyle

Watches have become an essential part of women’s wardrobes today. While styles change—current trends lean towards a masculine design with a feminine twist—one element of fashion has remained a girl’s steadfast friend: Diamonds.

Cartier, Tank Louis Cartier Extra-Flat Watch

Cartier

As one of the most iconic wristwatch designs for almost a century, the Tank’s legions of fans have included Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Andy Warhol, and Yves Saint Laurent.

This current version retains its classic rectangular “Tank” case shape, but Cartier has upgraded it by giving it a larger and thinner case with diamonds studded on both sides of the bezel. The geometric design combined with the cool tone of white gold (the watch is also available in pink gold), and the sparkle of diamonds add just the right amount of feminity to this handsome timepiece ($29,900).

Chanel, J12

Chanel

When it comes to what women want, in particular discerning women, Chanel is undoubtedly fashion’s consistent leader.

Coco Chanel bacame a pioneer by incorporating men’s haberdashery in her designs before anyone else. Her eponymous brand leads the charge once again with the J12, which features a glossy black ceramic case and bracelet. The inspiration for the powerful design was taken from a men’s sports watch, and the house stayed true to its signature shades of black and white by adding diamonds to the sleek jet body of the timepiece, making it a must-have for Chanel devotees ($18,700).

Audemars Piguet, Royal Oak

Designed by Gerald Genta, a legendary watchmaker credited for many celebrated creations, the Royal Oak model has remained Audemars Piguet’s flagship model since 1972.

It shocked the world with an industrial design in steel that was more expensive than the brand’s gold wristwatches sold at the time. But the design has endured and continues to be one of the most popular today. For the lady’s version, the 37mm case is smaller and fitted with round brilliant-cut diamonds around the bezel, juxtaposing industrial aesthetics with luxe appeal ($24,800).
