As the 2017 edition of Auto Shanghai unfolded this year, Mercedes-Benz garnered particular attention for revealing the new S-Class Sedan. Through this Concept A show car, the luxury automobile brand has provided a glimpse into the next generation of these compact cars, encompassing innovations in efficiency, comfort and automated driving through its Intelligent Drive features.
DISTRONIC active proximity control and Active Steering Assist are among the new and modified functions that set the new model apart, marking a significant step towards autonomous driving. Further development of the car’s camera and radar systems, which predict the car’s path, enable temporary automated driving, while map and navigation data calculate driving style. The car is then powered by new six-cylinder inline engines and V8 biturbo petrol engine, with cylinder deactivation for better fuel economy.
For an enhanced driving experience, ENERGIZING comfort control has been integrated to bring together a number of comfort systems, from climate control, musical atmosphere and ambient lighting to massage and fragrance functions, each of which is personalized to the individual, taking the world’s first wellness while driving concept a step further.
The interior design of the new S-Class benefits from a series of innovations, too, perhaps most notably of which is the two high-definition widescreen displays that can be controlled by touch pads on the steering wheel. And while the most significant updates have been made in the way this car functions, a number of changes have been made to the exterior too, with reshaping, LED lights and chromed tailpipes.
The launch of this new model came as Mercedes-Benz marked its 50th anniversary at Auto Shanghai. The new S-Class Sedan is expected to arrive in the United States later this year. Find out more about the new model’s functions over at mbusa.com.
