Cuisine: German nouvelle cuisine
Signature dishes: Goose liver
One of Germany’s top gourmet restaurants, the multi award-winning Vendôme is a benchmark of luxury cuisine.
Situated within the baroque splendor of the Schloss Bensberg Hotel, Head Chef Joachim Wissler enchants guests with his dramatic creations, focusing heavily on the pure flavors of classic, often forgotten dishes and giving them a modern twist. Grand in both style and substance, guests are also treated to magical views over the city of Cologne, best enjoyed at sunset when the restaurant is bathed in golden light.
Andy Hayler Favorite:
“Vendôme offers a lengthy tasting menu of 24 courses, a vast meal which lasted six hours. Overall, the standard was remarkably high. The cooking was inventive and modern in a positive way, creating interesting combinations and textures that work together, never showing off a technique for the sake of it. I was pleased that some touches of German cuisine popped in; most of the top German chefs seem to stick very much to French cooking with Asian touches, so it was good to see a nod to the local cuisine. Some elements, such as the shellfish bouillon and the pork paper, were truly memorable. A tour de force from a gifted chef.”
