Under the Hammer: Christie’s Vintage Couture

By Chris Boyle

Looking to stand out from the crowd this festive season? Then mark Christie’s Vintage Couture and Luxury Handbags Sale in your diary, taking place in West London next Wednesday (November 13).

Featuring 174 lots of captivating creations from across the ages, Christie’s biggest sale of the year will offer up classic designs as well as a selection of wearable couture by the world’s top contemporary designers and goes on public view at Christie’s South Kensington this Saturday.

From wearable gowns and cocktail dresses to coats, suits and Hermès handbags, there is something for every discerning fashionista and vintage collector, including the sale of Schiaparelli gowns once belonging to socialite Lady Cecile Kemball Cook.

Other auction highlights are set to include the sale of ten Disney-Princess-inspired dresses designed by the likes of Versace, Elie Saab and Oscar de la Renta (in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity) and a 30 lot collaboration with Cameron Silver of Decades, LA’s famed vintage consignment store.

Pat Frost, Director of Christie’s Fashion Department, commented: “With a buoyant market for vintage items, this is a good time to be launching our exciting collaboration with Cameron Silver of Decades, the doyen of the vintage fashion world.

“From a classic Dior gown to edgy designs by Jean Paul Gaultier and Alexander McQueen, the sale offers inspiration for winter wardrobes.”
