Jewelry: Like a Rainbow

This story originally appeared in the September/October 2017 issue of Elite Traveler.

Whether playing with a rainbow of colors or re-creating a rainbow, designers turn to the symbol of hope to create these beautiful pieces. Spinelli Killcolin became known for his linked stacked rings of different sizes, called Galaxy rings. They can be worn stacked or across multiple fingers. Each piece takes the name of a celestial object. This Aries ring has rubies, emeralds and sapphires and is handmade in Los Angeles. Another independent brand, Roule&Co offers a unique take with its Spiked Shaker bangle. Inside a blackened 18K white gold cage are 53 carats of loose, multicolored sapphires, which can also be customized. Both Stephen Webster and Lydia Courteille present rainbow-colored feathers with a Magnipheasant bracelet from London and a fabulous ear cuff from Paris.

Those in the know looking for special and rare gemstones head straight to Oscar Heyman in New York. Here, unheated multicolored sapphires form an elegant bracelet. Alex Soldier’s rainbow earrings are handmade in New York and feature long strands of precious gems. Temple St Clair’s Tolomeo pendant has eight rings with multi-colored stones and can be worn several ways, including with the rings open in a way that calls to mind models of the solar system.
