Stockholm can be visited at all times of the year; however, spring and summer are the best options for those unaccustomed to cold weather, as Swedish winters are usually bitterly cold and dark.

Visit from May to August, when temperatures are high and daylight can last up to an incredible 19 hours. Having said that, those who brave the elements to go during the winter months are rewarded for their efforts despite the cold; the city looks starkly beautiful under its blanket of snow, and there are hundreds of cozy bars, cafés and restaurants to hide out in.

LOCAL CUSTOMS

The Swedish are renowned for their polite behavior and general courtesy. Follow their lead to make a good impression.

ATTIRE

The Swedish are very interested in fashion, but not of the traditional kind. The changeable seasons mean that practicality often comes first, the Swedes preferring clean, contemporary, fuss-free designs over more traditional, glitzy fashion. This is not to say that they don’t appreciate a bit of oldschool glamour; style icons Greta Garbo and Ingrid Bergman both hailed from Sweden.
